My Best Friend's Wedding
.
Julia Roberts is back in fine form in this terrific romantic comedy of 1997, which is funny, romantic and particularly unpredictable, given its genre.
Julianne Potter (Roberts) finally falls in love with her best friend, Michael O'Neil (Dermot Mulroney), after he informs her of his engagement to the beautiful and sweet Kimmy Wallace (Cameron Diaz).  Michael wants Julianne with him to 'hold his hand' and help him through the hectic few days before his wedding.... during which time Julianne does everything to break up the happy couple, despite the utmost trust Michael has in her and the 'sisterly' manner in which Kimmy is treating her.  The only thing she doesn't try is telling Michael how she now really feels.
Despite the excellence of the script and all support roles, the movie is absolutely made by Rupert Everett who plays Julianne's editor and chief confidante, George Downes.  Rupert is absolutely hilarious as George, who takes potentially sad situations and creates magnificent comedy to ensure the viewer leaves laughing and happy.
To say much more about the plot would give this one away, and it is not a movie to be given away...
Will Michael, the man who 'sips soup through his teeth, but he sure can kiss' reciprocate his best friend, Julianne's love, or will he go ahead with his marriage?
Will Julianne's devious plotting be discovered?
Could Julianne end up with George *despite* his homosexuality (well, they did look good together!)?
.
'The misery! The exquisite Susan Hayworth tragedy of it all!'
.
Take your own laughter, message and thoughts away from this one folks, but remember one thing:
.
'There may not be marriage, there may not be sex, but by God there will
    be dancing!'
