One of my definite faves
of '98 - Ever After tells of a unique 16th century woman, Danielle (Drew
Barrymore) who possesses a love of books, and can easily quote from Sir
Thomas More's Utopia. "An intriguing mix of tomboyish athleticism and physical
beauty, she has more than enough charm to capture the heart of a prince
... after beaning him with an apple". Basically it is, as they say
'a Cinderella story - Danielle is mistreated by her step mother and one
evil step sister. She does however, find a friend in one of her step sisters,
and is also a 'daughter' figure to the household's working staff.
She captures the heart of the Prince (his weakness? "I should have thought
that was obvious" - best line!) and the rest is history. The loveable
factor of this movie is - well, everything! The characters, costumes,
wit, intrigue, romance, adventure, laughter and tears. It's set in another
time but you feel like you're there. You certainly want to be there - and
it's a tale for all ages. A definite must see for, at least it seems
like it's possible to be happy 'ever after'.
